Actor and stand-up comedian Vir Das recently shared his insights on the difference between acting and stand-up comedy. He said that even the best actors in the world cannot replicate the unique brilliance of a comedian, as it is intrinsically linked to the performer's personality. To illustrate his point, he cited examples of Ranbir Kapoor and the late stand-up comedian Raju Srivastav.
Speaking on The Streaming Show podcast, Vir Das explained that even a great actor like Ranbir Kapoor cannot recreate Raju Srivastav's genius stand-up comedy bits because they resonated with audiences due to Raju's distinctive personality. Referring to Raju's popular five-star hotel lunch bit, Vir said, "The waiter was judging Raju Srivastav, and he was judging the waiter for being in a five-star restaurant. If you transcribe that whole bit and give it to the best actor in the world, you give it to Ranbir Kapoor, they wouldn't be able to do it. What makes that bit work is being Raju Srivastav. It's not even the writing that can help you."
