While the 7th episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show managed to strike a fine balance between interview and sketch comedy, Sharmin Segal and other actors from the web show Heeramandi visibly struggled to find humour in Kapil Sharma's flat jokes.

Kapil Sharma loves to make his guests laugh, but the comedian commenced the seventh episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show on a sumptuous note as he treated his guests, the star cast of Heeramandi, to some delectable pani puri, instantly earning himself some brownie points.

Kapil took on the role of a snazzy panipuri vendor in the latest episode. The show kicked off with an average skit featuring Kapil, Sunil Grover, and Krushna Abhishek, with the latter two eagerly eyeing the panipuri stall. This prompted the star cast of Heeramandi to enter the show and surround Kapil for a quick bite, setting the tone for an episode centred around delicious food and average comedy fare.

As Kapil Sharma chatted with Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Manisha Koirala, Sharmin Segal, Aditi Rao Hydari and Sanjeeda Sheikh, his teammates stepped in to keep the laughs rolling. It had been a while, but finally, the show treated us to a genuinely funny sketch, complete with some top-notch acting.

Krushna Abhishek took on the role of Jackie Shroff’s Chunni Lal from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Devdas, while Kiku Sharda, decked out in an elaborate Anarkali costume, portrayed Madhuri Dixit’s Chandramukhi. The sketch revolved around Chunni Lal and Chandramukhi entering into a long-distance relationship following Devdas’ demise. But things got hilariously awkward when Chunni Lal couldn’t resist teasing Chandramukhi about her newfound curves. Despite Kapil’s show not being famous for its politically correct jokes, the highlight was when Kiku, playing Chandramukhi, brilliantly shut down Krushna’s Chunni Lal, leaving Sonakshi Sinha and the audience in fits of laughter.

While Krushna and Kiku’s skit stole the spotlight, Sunil Grover’s appearance as Engineer Chumbaak fell flat, leaving the stage without making much of an impact. It’s not uncommon to encounter average or even subpar skits on Kapil Sharma’s show, but what really matters is the reaction from the guests and the audience. Throughout the 50-minute episode, Sonakshi Sinha and Sanjeeda Sheikh brought their A-game and participated in the show with full gusto, but some of the other actors appeared less than impressed by Kapil’s lacklustre jokes, struggling to muster up genuine laughter.

Sharmin Segal, in particular, maintained a poker face throughout the show. While her deadpan expressions might have seemed out of place in Heeramandi, they made perfect sense on The Great Indian Kapil Show, where she visibly struggled to find humour in Kapil Sharma’s flat jokes. But it wasn’t all doom and gloom in the seventh episode. In fact, it managed to strike a fine balance between interview and sketch comedy, offering viewers a decent entertainment experience. Looking ahead, the anticipation for the next episode is sky-high, as it will feature none other than Ed Sheeran, who recently made his third visit to India. In a teaser clip, the singer dubbed Kapil Sharma’s show as the “craziest and the most fun show” in the world. We’ll have to wait until next Saturday on Netflix to see if it lives up to the hype!
